Right now our priority is to get the yard whipped up into tip-top shape. These are some pictures of the first mowing. Remember, this yard hasn't been mowed for at least a year, maybe two. Hubby did the mowing, and I did the raking. The yard is starting to shape up, and I can tell it isn't feeling quite as neglected.

Hi Darlene. Nice to see the billowing daffodils at the end there. My goodness, that grass certainly was deep! Hopefully you'll be able to keep it down a bit now but, as you quite rightly say, you've certainly got your work cut out my friend. It's an exciting time of the year in the garden, isn't it.

Do you guys have a shop light? If you have one put it right above your seedlings. It helps to lightly brush your hand across the seedlings too. They won't be as leggy. (lol)
ReplyDeleteIf there aren't seed heads in your mown grass, I would use it as a mulch with your gardens. It's free, will help fertilize slowly and keep the moisture in later on as summer gets here. It's also possible that you could lay 4-10 layers of newspaper or 1 layer of cardboard down and top it off with the grass clippings, dirt, compost, whatever you've got and you'll end up with a nice garden bed for next year. Water it down so that it doesn't all blow away though. Worms love it. (Pill bugs too, but shhh.....)
I'm so excited that you have found your forever home. It'll take time but it'll be beautiful and all yours. Love the daffodils.

ReplyDeleteIt's a lot of work but you can do it. I was going to suggest some of the same things All 8 said so I'll leave it be. I know you'll be so glad when it's all done and you are reaping the rewards. Moving is such hard work. Good luck my friend.
ReplyDeleteAfter it being so unseasonably warm, it is supposed to freeze two nights this week here. So no planting just yet :(
