H - Hairdo Unveiled

One of my projects for this year was to get a haircut. That may not seem like much of a project, but I've been having hair issues for about three years now.

My issues started when I decided to just "let my hair go". The coloring was getting expensive, and well, if you want to read that story, go here.

My solution for going gray gracefully was to wear my hair pulled back into a pony-tail. While a pony tail is cool, (temperature-wise), when I'm having my own personal summer, it's not very stylish, at least on me.

So, here are a couple of my "before" pictures. It pains me to show these, but, here goes:
You see why I prefer short hair. After three years of growing out my hair, there is still some brown (dyed) showing.

This has been my unofficial hair do for three years.

So when I went to visit my stylist, we had a quick conversation. I wanted a short, low-maintence, stylish hair style. I did not want to have a senior discount thrust upon me as had recently happened.

She said she could cut it short, put a little wax in it, easy-peasy, low-maintence. I told her how I loved Jamie Lee Curtis's hair style, and would love to do it, but, 1) I was a little afraid to go that short, and 2) I knew Hubby would freak out if I came home with hair that short.

The reason I was sure he would freak out, is because every time I mentioned it, and/or showed him a picture of her hair, he would turn his nose up and just shake his head.

That's why I came home with this hair do:

When I came home, he said: "You look like your sister." (The same girl cuts both our hair. She tends to give us the same hair cut.) Anyway, I said, "Well, I thought about going Jamie-Lee-Curtis-short, but - "

"You should have", he interrupted.

Ex-CUSE me? "Why, then, did you act like you hated her hair?"

"No, I think it would look good on you."

Again, ex-CUSE me?  (Oh, brother, MEN!)

Then, Amazing Daughter joined in the conversation, agreeing with him.

So, I decided to bite the bullet, be brave, and go for it. I've always wanted to, for crying out loud. I called back my stylist, made another appointment, and now, this is my new hair! I don't even mind the gray.

So, is there something that you've always wanted to do, but are afraid to? Why not just go for it?

(This post has been prescheduled. I am currently spending time with my granddaughter and spoiling her as much as possible. If I am slow in responding to your kind comments, that is why. Thanks for stopping by.)

  1. Love love love it! Very chic & stylish. I know all about having hair issues (mine varies from flat and straight(ish) to big & curly depending on the humidity) so I understand how important it is to have a great cut.

  3. I think you made the right decision! It is adorable. You look amazing. This is the 4th post I've read on hair and I will continue reading H posts on hair. Because what woman isn't obsessed with her hair? But truly, you should keep this cut!

  4. What a wonderful selection of before's and after's...I think the new Jamie Lee version is super on you! The other shorter style looked very good, too, but I think it would have been a lot of work to maintain it and you would have been continually taking the long bits back out of your eyes. I also wear my hair short. It's so easy I don't need to do much more than finger dry it. Enjoy the new-look you! You are gorgeous and elegant :)

  8. I hate to state the obvious, but nice hair.
The "H" for Hair seems to be the theme of the day (or maybe I'm just visiting a lot of female blogs, which is fine by me). I definitely see the Jamie Lee Curtis connection.

As for mine own follicle anecdote, I tend to keep it short, fresh, and refined. Though I tried something new this past year and let the flow grow out for a few months. And I like it that way.

  9. Darlene, I love the short do!! It looks fantastic on you; it takes 10 years off your age (admittedly, not knowing your age). A lot of people are blogging about hair today...it's that time of year. I'm now a follower.

  10. WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Movie Star Darlene!! You look fantastic!!!!!!!! But, actually, I think you looked beautiful with the long hair, the pulled-back hair, the medium hair, and now the short hair. You have one of those faces that look nice and you look classy and "rich looking" in whatever haircut I think you'd have. BUT: the new one is pretty terrific! Now go and enjoy your grandchild! And congrats on the great hair-do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Best,
    Gloria

  13. Oh my goodness - adorable cut!! The ponytail worked for you too (I'm guilty of the same daily look - if my hair's long enough for a rubber band, it's in one!) but the short cut looks amazing!

  14. Love your hair. And it is just like me. I decided that I did not want to spend $$$ getting my hair colored, cut and highlighted every month not to mention that it took too long and I hated being there for 3 hours. So I went gray. At first it looked horrible with the root line gray and the rest not. So I colored just the roots and that was it. It grew out nicely and I am salt and pepper gray now and everyone likes it much better. Including me. Thanks for stopping my my site today on I.
