What Lady Gaga Taught Me About Being Politically Correct

Welcome to Trending Topics.  This is how it works….today I am guest posting on Things I’ll Forget About Tomorrow while Darlene is guest posting over on Cheap Therapy.  We decided on a topic and swapped opinions. Darlene picked the topic and you can too if you want to join in on the fun and take a Thursday and a Trending Topic!

Political correctness may not be on twitter and yahoos top feeding trends but it is something that never really goes away.  It’s a topic that doesn’t have any real answers and it’s a topic that is sure to get someone’s blood boiling.

Lady Gaga has made an entrance over the past few years.  Whether it is from her absurd outfits and other statements, she is a household name.  If you don’t know who Lady Gaga is then you probably shouldn’t be reading this post.  And it is probably safe to say that you don’t know much about political correctness as well.

Stop scratching your head.  I’m going to combine Lady Gaga and political correctness together brilliantly and intelligently.  Prepare to be amazed.

When my mother told me that she wanted to do something about being politically correct, I went a little weak in the knees.  Politics and being politically correct aren’t my strong suit when it comes to writing.  I was thinking more along the lines of something in the entertainment industry like NBC’s The Voice for example.  (If anyone wants to do this as a trending topic please let me know.  Go team Adam!)  As I rubbed my hands together hoping for some profound thoughts that would inspire this topic, Lady Gaga came on the radio.  As I listened to the words of Bad Romance, I knew it had to be a sign, because sure enough, the lyrics said everything I’ve ever wanted to say about being politically correct.

Let me break it down for ya,

I want your ugly
I want your disease
I want your everything as long as it‘s free
I want your love, love, love, love, I want your love

* Clearly political correctness is ugly and a disease.  Everyone is so afraid of offending someone that we have to hide in our own thoughts and feelings.  We can’t have losers anymore, even though losing makes us want to win even more.  (It’s called ambition.)  We all have to have some lesson or bully to learn from instead we are becoming a victim to our own lifestyle and words.   Cover up the truth with whatever sounds good and FREE is always good.

I want your drama
The touch of your hand
I want you leather studded kiss in the sand
I want your love, love, love, love, I want your love

* Let’s just focus on the ‘I want your drama the touch of your hand.’  The saying goes that one small spark can set a whole course on fire.  When did the drama begin and look how far it has taken us away from the original meaning.  No one likes to be bullied and picked on.  No one wants their flaws pointed out but it happens.  We’re given a heart and mind to understand our feelings.  Not every day will be flowing with positive vibes and complements but we can decided how to react to everything.

You know that I want you
And you know that I need you
I want your bad, bad romance

* Yes, this PC is like a bad romance.  There is no other way to describe it.  Some people want it, some people need it but it’s just like mixing water and oil.  It’s never going to come together.  We are never going to agree.

I want your love
And I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance

*We have written a bad romance.  The political correctness has turned into polite name calling and pointing fingers for the sake of pointing fingers.  We asked for it and now we use it as our revenge.

Caught in a bad romance.

*You know we are.

Cause you’re a criminal as long as your mine.  Ra ra oh ra ra

Thank you Lady Gaga for teaching me everything I need to know about PC.  Who says that Lady Gaga can't be a good example or change the human race? What a scary world we live in!

  3. I agree with you that political correctness is disease. We've become so concerned about hurting feelings that nothing is said anymore. It's to the point that everything changes when one person says they are offended. It's ridiculous.

  7. And interesting take, Jennee.

And I'm totally Team Adam, too, btw. Although I'm a very close second for Team Blake.
