Almost Wordless Wednesday

We left Colorado Springs, Pike's Peak, and Garden of the Gods. Our next stop was the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  But first, here are a few "drive by" pictures.

We look kind of silly, but, check out the view!

It's a long way down!

I love the  blue sky!

Almost Wordless Wednesday

The woman who wrote "America the Beautiful" was inspired to write the song while visiting Pike's Peak

The journey West continues. Today, we're at Pike's Peak and Garden of the Gods.
When we started our trip, the temperature was in the 70's

I love that name!

Someone actually lives halfway up the mountain. They maintain the tracks or something.  Their "driveway" is 20 miles long, and grocery shopping day is a seven hour ordeal!

The temperature was a balmy 34 degrees! Altitude: 14,110 feet. I was definitely feeling it after only about 15 minutes.

Next stop, Garden of the Gods

That's a mighty big rock

Almost Wordless Wednesday

After Abilene, Kansas we kept driving west, on to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Our first stop was the U.S. Air Force Academy. As we were pulling in, BIL and SIL spotted a family who were leaving that looked familiar. It was their neighbors from Michigan! It is a small world!

Somewhere in Colorado

The most imposing sight (other than the landscape) is the chapel

It's hard to capture the awesomeness

Inside the chapel

A gigantic pipe organ

The ceiling

Outside of the chapel

Marching
Hup - two double time

Amazing scenery

Cool sculpture of an eagle

Panoramic view

A tree!

Almost (Never!) Wordless Wednesday

Waaay back in July, Hubby and I took a road trip out West, and I'm just now getting around to posting the second edition of photos for your (hopefully) viewing pleasure.  We stopped in Abilene, Kansas to go to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Museum. There is not much else to see in Abilene, Kansas. This definitely qualifies as "Small Town, USA."
President Eisenhower

The home of the President, before and after serving his term

The living room where many dignitaries visited

Maime's inagural gown. She did not have designer gowns, but this one is quite beautiful

Hubby and Ike
I always liked this picture, now it's a statue in the museum
Hmmmm, could this possibly be true?
If you eat at this restaurant....

... This is what you will be served.  Everybody gets the same thing! There were no complaints.

A ride in a horse-drawn carriage is available
I like the posts

There are windmills as far as the eye can see in Kansas. I wonder how much electricity they produce!
