B - Busy as a Brain-dead Bee

Your guess is as good as mine on whether or not the blog content will have any relation at all to the blog title!

I'm writing this from an unfamiliar computer, and that is my brilliant reasoning for why my name is at the top of the blog instead of at the bottom. I couldn't get it to move. If you are much younger than I am, like, say, the age of my daughter, you may be rolling your eyes at this logic. But, that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Hubby and I are back on the road again. We have been gone so much lately, when there is so much work to do on our house, that I am starting to feel a little braindead. The best way for me to deal with a lot of stress is to just power-down the old brain. It goes from lower to lowest.

I'm sitting in my BIL's office, using his computer, and deathly afraid that the wrong button will be hit, and, al-a-ka-zaam! everything will disappear, and I will be blamed.

Everyone in the house is gone today, so I'm sitting here all by my lonesome. But, not to worry, SIL has given me a project to do. She's always more than happy to give me something to do to keep me busy. (buzz-buzz)

Today my little project is to paint and re-upholster a little bench for her grandson. I have no problem with the painting, but this is my first attempt to re-upholster something. It doesn't look too difficult, so I'm up for the challenge.

Since yesterday was April Fool's, I'll leave you with the story of how I was the fool for yet another year. Growl. I usually start a few days before April 1, trying to reinforce to my brain that April 1 is coming. Be aware! Don't be fooled! However, we were busy this weekend helping my BIL and SIL get a house ready to sell, and we also stayed up late watching our OSU Buckeyes suffer an embarrassing loss in basketball. And, I kind of forgot that April 1 was coming up.

So, early Sunday morning, Hubby distracted me by saying, "When I woke up, I didn't know where I was."

"Ah, but did you know who you were with?" I quickly asked him. He assured me that the feeling only lasted a split second. So, we laid there talking, when he said, "What's wrong with your face?"

"What? Do I have more red splotches that usual?"

"No." he said. "It's down around your chin. Your skin is sagging."

"Are you talking about my wrinkles?" I said, starting to feel my face with my hands.

"No. Your skin looks saggy." he repeated.

"Well, maybe I had a mini stroke last night", I kind of joked.

He looked at me, very concerned, then said, "APRIL FOOL!"

Dang it!! He got me again. He laughed and said, "I knew if I appealed to your vanity, I could get you!."

What can I say? He was right. Maybe next year I won't be fooled. (But, I doubt it.)

In honor of the letter B, have a BEEEEE-UUU-TEEE-FUL Day!

A - April's Fool

This month begins the challenge to blog every day of the month, except Sundays-going through the entire alphabet. Today is dedicated to the letter A.

Today is April Fool's Day. I was wondering why April 1 is April Fool's Day. Why is it the day to play jokes on the unsuspecting or forgetful fool?

Well, here is what I found out. As the story goes, back in 1582, Charles IX of France, decided to reform the calendar. Switching to the Gregorian Calendar meant that the new New Year's Day would be January 1, instead of the current days March 25 - April 1. Why they  needed eight days for the new year is beyond me, but that's the way it was. News traveled slowly back in the good ol' days, and some people didn't know of the change for years. However, there were others who didn't like the change and tried to keep April 1 as New Year's Day. Obviously, they lost that war. Those who refused to conform were invited to parties that didn't exist, and had other practical jokes played upon them. In short, they became "the fools". I feel for those people.

I wake up every April Fool's Day, determined not to be made a fool of. I remind myself constantly for the first hour or two of the day to be "on guard" of the evil ones (namely, Hubby, Daughter and both Sons - whether or not they all live here is irrelevant!) But, of course, they never try anything within the first two hours of the day...and I let my guard down, think good things about them, and eventually forget what day it is.

And, that is when they strike. Never anything earth-shattering. Just a little piece of "gossip" here, or a "speeding ticket" there, or something like that. They non-chalantly toss out the bait, reel me in ever-so-gently, then BAM! Knock me over the head with it.

You'd think after all these years I'd get a clue and start remembering. But, alas, my blog isn't called "Things I'll Forget by Tomorrow" just because I think it's a catchy title.

I may get a reprieve this year. Hubby and I are on our way to spend some time with our Sweetie Pie. I am sure he will be so distracted by this, that he will forget to fool me. Unfortunately, I still have three kids to worry about.

I will be on guard,I will be on guard, I will be on guard, I will be on guard, I will be on guard.....

(This has been a pre-scheduled post. I am currently spending time with my granddaughter and spoiling her as much as possible. If I'm slow in responding to your comments, now you know the reason!)
